AI-assisted Consults let users record an in-practice consultation and generate a draft consult note, a suggested weight entry, and a transcript for review before saving them to the patient file. This article explains how to perform an AI-assisted Consult and review the results.
Before you start
- AI-assisted Consult must be enabled for your practice. See How do I enable AI-assisted Consults?.
- You need the AI features permission to use AI-assisted Consult.
- You need a working microphone connected to your device.
- If your browser prompts for microphone access, select the correct microphone and allow access.
- All parties present must be aware that the consultation is being recorded and processed by an AI tool.
- AI-generated content must always be reviewed before saving.
- AI-assisted Consults support documentation only and do not make clinical decisions.
Step-by-step instructions
- Open the patient file.
- Click AI-assisted Consult.
- If your browser prompts for microphone access, select the correct microphone and allow access.
- Accept the recording waiver.
- Click Start recording.
- Speak naturally during the consultation.
- Pause the recording if needed.
- Click Save when the consultation ends to begin the analysis stage.
- Review the weight section.
- If a weight was detected, review it and click Save.
- If no weight was detected, enter a manual value and click Save, or click Cancel if no weight log is required.
- Review the draft consult.
- Edit the draft consult as needed.
- Click Save or Cancel for the consult.
Once both the weight and consult have been saved or cancelled, the relevant items are added to the patient file. The transcript is also saved in the patient file as a separate AI Transcript entry.
More about this
What items are added to the patient file?
A transcript is added as a separate AI Transcript entry. If you save the consult, it is added as a normal consult entry. If you save the weight, it is added as a weight entry.
Where can I view the transcript?
The transcript is shown in the patient file as a separate AI Transcript entry. The transcript cannot be edited or re-analysed. It can be deleted only if there is no associated consult or weight entry.
What information is stored?
Audio recordings are stored temporarily and are automatically deleted after 30 days. Transcripts are handled through encrypted channels using a trusted third-party service and are stored in the patient file until deleted, where allowed. Saved consults and weight entries follow standard Animana data retention rules.
What happens if no weight is detected?
The weight section is always shown after analysis. If no weight is detected, the weight field appears blank. You can manually enter a weight and save it, or click Cancel to skip creating a weight entry.
Microphone permissions and troubleshooting
A working microphone and browser permission are required to record an AI-assisted Consult. Microphone access is controlled by your browser, not Animana.
What should happen when you start?
When you click AI-assisted Consult, your browser may prompt you to grant microphone access.
- Select the correct microphone.
- Choose Allow while visiting this site or Allow.
- Continue with the recording waiver and start the consult.
What if the recording does not work?
If clicking Start recording does nothing or no audio is captured, this usually indicates a problem with the microphone or browser permission.
Animana does not currently detect whether a microphone is connected. If no microphone is available, Start recording may still appear clickable, but nothing will happen when you click it.
What to check first
- Make sure a working microphone is connected and switched on.
- At the top of your browser window, immediately to the left of the address bar, click the settings or padlock icon and check the microphone setting for the site.
- Confirm that the correct microphone is selected.
- Return to the patient file and try the action again.
