How do I search for patients?

Searching for clients and patients is one of the key functionalities you should master. While the search functionality also allows you to search for vets and suppliers, this article only focus on finding the right  patient in Animana.

Scenario 1: Finding patients

With this scenario you will learn how to find patients if you have a part of their name. Searching with a full name is relatively easy because you have the correct information already, it only has to be put in Animana to find the correct result. So In this scenario we will focus on finding patients if you have a part of their name. Searching always begins with the search bar at the top of Animana:

In this search bar you can use a combination of multiple criteria such as client name, client address and patient name to narrow your results. These search criteria need to be filled in a special order, which is:

<client name>,<client address>,<patient info>
This is box title

Note that the criteria (without the brackets) need to be separated by commas and no spaces are allowed after the commas.

This is box title

In this example, you are trying to find a patient but you only remember a part of the name. You know that it starts with the letters ra. Keeping the special order in min, when you decide to enter a search in the search bar which looks like the following:

Let’s dissect this search. By filling in two commas first, you are telling Animana that you don’t have any criteria for the client name and client address. After the second comma, Animana notices that a search term has been entered and will find results in the patient name OR breed OR species OR in the patient ID field. Results will be displayed in a list below. In this case the search provides the following results:

The first result appears because the search term is used in the Breed column, the second result appears because the search term is used in the Name and the third result appears because the search term is found in the Species column.

Note that the address details of the client will be displayed in the results list as well:

Scenario 2: Finding patients in combination with clients

In the following scenario you have a part of the client and patient name. With this information you can use Animana to find the appropriate records. At the search bar you can use a combination of multiple criteria such as client name, client address and patient name to narrow your results. These search criteria need to be filled in through a special syntax, which is:

<client name>,<client address>,<patient info>
This is box title

Note that the syntax criteria (without the brackets) need to be separated by commas and no spaces are allowed after the commas.

This is box title

In this example you have a partial client name, which is rhy and a part of the patient name which is whi. Keeping the syntax in mind, you have part of a client name and part of a patient name which can be used like this:

Let’s take a closer look at this search. The term before the first comma, will be searched for in the client name OR email address OR visible notes OR client code. The search term after the second comma will be searched for in the patient name OR breed OR species OR in the patient ID field. It will provide the following result:

This result is displayed because the term rhy appears in the Owner column and the term whi appears because it appears in the patient name.
