To be able to sell products, you must first add them to your product database in Animana. This can be done in two ways: either by manually entering all product information or by using the supplier integration. In the UK Animana currently provides the pricelist for Centaur, Henry Schein, IDEXX In-house Diagnostics, IDEXX Reference Lab, NVS, and Zoetis. This article explains how to add a product from a suppliers list.
Before you start
- You need permission to be able to manage products. Permissions can be adjusted by practice administrators in
> General Settings > Role Management.
- By adding a product from a suppliers list, please note that this does not mean you are automatically ordering the product from the supplier. The product will only be added to your existing product database in Animana.
Step by step instructions
- Go to Extra > Product > Products.
- Select the supplier you want to add products from in the drop-down menu by the field “search products from wholesaler”.
- Click Add Products From Wholesaler.
- The screen “Add products of [supplier]” will open.
- Type (part of) the product name in the “find product” field or leave it empty.
This is box titleTip: You can also browse the supplier’s catalog by, for example, typing “a1” in the search field; this will display the first page of all products from this supplier that start with the letter “A.”. - Select the “markup” you want to apply to calculate the sales price. See the related articles.
- Select to which “product group” this product needs to be added.
- Click Show.
You will see a list of products, units, and prices. The markup was set in step 6, and based on that, Animana calculates the sales price displayed in the list. You can adjust this later if needed. More about this. - Click Save at the end of the product line to add the product.
This is box titleNote: If you use markups, we recommend that when adding a product from the price list, you first save the product before adjusting the units; otherwise, an incorrect sales price may be calculated.
- Click Save if you are done adding the product or click Save And Next if you want to add another product from the list.
As soon as the product has been saved you can view, edit and complete the product information via > Products > Products. Especially the units, stock and pricing are important. More about this.

What does it mean if I see a green checkmark in the list at step 8?
Products with a green checkmark in the last column at step 8 of the step-by-step instructions are already in your product database and do not need to be added again. Animana checks the code in column 7 of the list against the available codes in your product database. If the code already exists, a green checkmark will be displayed.
Updating your stock after adding a new product
Once you have added the product to your database, you will also need to tell Animana how much stock you have left, when Animana needs to alert you when stock is running low and how much you want to order if stock is low.
- Go to Extra > Product > Products.
- Type the name of the product in the “find product” field.
- Click Find.
- Click on the product in the results below.
- Click on the Stock tab.
- Complete the fields.
Field Description Storage The practice location where the product will be stored. If you stock this product in multiple locations, make sure to create separate lines for each and every location with this product's stock level in that location.
